Whizzinator – Makers to Plead Guilty to Conspiracy?

Are the Whizzinator’s days numbered? I just read a really disturbing article. Two undercover cops in Pennsylvania each ordered one, which sounds like it started a domino effect that ended in federal charges being brought against the president and vice president of the Whizzinator’s parent company, Puck Technology. Holy s***!

The charge is conspiracy to defraud the government – specifically the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which oversees drug testing programs in federal workplaces. Note that these are federal workplaces we’re talking about here. That covers a lot of workers, but right now this would presumably only affect you if you work for the government. According to the article there’s talk of some kind of plea agreement, and you can bet that it will include some provision for the Whizzinator not being available to federal employees.

If you’ve spent any time on my website at all then you know I’m a huge advocate for the dilution method, for all kinds of reasons. But for people that work in a situation where they can easily get away with passing a drug test using the Whizzinator, then hey – I’m all for it, man. For that reason, I think it should DEFINITELY be an option for people.

I don’t think the Whizzinator is going to disappear overnight or anything like that, but the reason this article is really disturbing to me is that once there’s a case like this that is won in court, then it sets a legal precedent that can be used in other legal cases. It’s like ‘a foot in the door’, so to speak. A door pot smokers do NOT want to go through… The danger is that things like detox drinks might start getting closer inspection too.

Mind you, this all has to do with commercial products being sold to help people pass drug tests. As far as exchanging information about how to pass a drug test goes, that’s not in any danger because of our First Amendment Rights. I mean, telling someone how to pass a urine drug test seems pretty tame as long as it’s still legal to tell people how to make bombs, right?

Anyway, just a heads up if you happen to be a federal employee. It looks like you might have one less option for passing a drug test here pretty soon. If you’ve ever even considered trying the Whizzinator, you might want to make that purchase sooner rather than later.

The Controversy Over Home Drug Tests For Teens

Stores are now selling a home drug test for parents who are inches away from calling an inpatient drug rehab center because they suspect their children are using drugs. To use the test, simply pull a hair from the head of your child and run it through the test.

Sounds simple doesn’t it? While the test itself might be simple, the factors and worries behind it are not. In California, drug rehab centers are concerned these new tests might cause a rash of unnecessary calls to the centers among many other family problems and complications.

The Moral Conflict

Many inpatient drug rehab programs feel that if things have gotten to the point that parents are going to take a hair sample for drug testing, it is time to sit and talk with their kids and look for other possible signs of drug abuse. For them, giving your child a drug test without their knowledge brings up questions in terms of trust and betrayal.

The biggest concern is that the focus of talking to kids for the purpose of prevention will be passed over since now, all parents have to do is pull out a strand of their kid’s hair. They can even do it while the kids are sleeping.

On the other side of the fence, manufacturers and many family groups feel the in-home drug tests could help addicts get help sooner and minimize the impact on everyone involved. They feel the test is a valuable tool for those who already strongly suspect drug abuse.

The results can be used to face the teen and convince them to go into a California drug rehab center or other treatment program in the US. It also helps in situations where the child is uncooperative or even violent.

The Accuracy of the Test

In-home drug testing is over 99% accurate, however this does not take contamination into consideration. Say your child goes to a public washroom and runs his hand through his hair. The transfer of DNA can occur that easily and the tests cannot distinguish between the two sets of DNA. In professional California drug rehab and testing centers, precautions are in place to eliminate this possibility.

As if a false positive result isn’t enough, the repercussions of falsely dragging your child to an inpatient drug rehab center only to find out it was a mistake can have life-long, negative effects on everyone. In the end, choosing whether to use a home drug test is up to the parents to decide. And if this test too displays a positive result then the person undergoing the test is declared to be under the influence of drugs. And on the other hand if this test shows negative, the previous test is deemed incorrect.

The process of giving a urine drug test should be done with care. Ensure that sample is sample is safe from alteration. Clean containers must be used to collect the sample. The sample must be checked immediately for acidity and temperature. Besides these care should be taken that the containers should be labeled in the presence of witness and furthermore, the containers should be sealed properly to prevent alteration. Watch out that the test should not be performed by a layperson and look out that the samples should be tested by licensed labs. Drug testing in the armed forces in all types of the wings (Army, Navy and Airforce) is a must for each and every personal as the military has a zero-tolerance policy for illegal drug use. The military services conduct several types of no-notice urinalysis drug testing. Positive results on most of these tests can be used for court-martial and discharge procedures.

Department of Defense, which is more popular as DoD is attacking the problem on the two fronts of supply and demand. Education and deterrence are the key aspects of reducing demand for illegal drugs in the defense forces.

Military Drug Tests:

To combat the rising health concern of drug abuse in the defense forces, DoD uses more sensitive tests to detect ecstasy during routine urine testing. Active duty service members must undergo a urine drug test annually. Reserve component members must be tested at least every two years. DoD labs test more than 60,000 urine samples each month, but it would be next to impossible for a mistaken positive result to affect a service member’s career.

The Drug Testing Procedure:

There are several protections built-in to the system to ensure accurate results. There is always a written record of who those individuals who access the sample. People who come in contact with each sample and what exactly they do to the sample are written on the document.

After arrival at the lab, samples undergo an initial immunoassay screening (using the Olympus AU-800 Automated Chemistry Analyzer). Those that test positive for the presence of drugs at this point undergo the same screen once again. Finally, those that come up positive during the second screening test are put through a much more specific gas chromatography/mass spectrometry test. This test can identify specific substances within the urine samples.

Even if a particular drug is detected, if the level is below a certain threshold, the test result is reported back to the commander as negative. DoD labs are equipped to test for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, LSD, opiates (including morphine and heroin), barbiturates and PCP. But not all samples are tested for all of these drugs. Every sample gets tested for marijuana, cocaine and amphetamines, including ecstasy.

Tests for other drugs are done at random on different schedules for each lab. Some laboratories do test every sample for every drug. Commanders can request samples be tested for steroids. In this case, the samples are sent to the Olympic testing laboratory at the University of California at Los Angeles.
