One of the most prevalent myths about passing a drug test is that you should drink tons of water for days or weeks before your test. The roots of this particular myth are actually grounded in reality (as most myths are), but the real facts about it have become distorted over time.
Possibly the biggest misconception about passing a urine test for marijuana is that you can get rid of THC metabolites by ‘detoxing’ your body – in other words, completely cleansing your body and getting back to square one. This misconception is constantly perpetuated by companies who want you to buy their detox products.
But in fact, because THC metabolites store themselves in your fat cells, the only genuine detoxification you could do would be to somehow lose a lot of weight (and fat) in a big hurry. Needless to say, not a very realistic plan. But if you’re in the position of needing to know how to pass a drug test for marijuana, don’t be discouraged by these facts!
How to Pass a Drug Test for Marijuana – What Does Work?
Hands down, plain old dilution is the MOST effective method for how to pass a drug test for marijuana. But the big problem with it is that most smokers don’t understand exactly how to do it, and more importantly they don’t know how to hide it from the drug testing labs.
Dilution does NOT mean drinking lots of water daily for a long period of time, and it also doesn’t mean adding water to your urine sample during your drug test. For passing a urine test, dilution means drinking enough water in a very short time span to overload your kidneys with fluids. When this happens, your kidneys are temporarily unable to filter the toxins in your body (including THC metabolites).
To put it another way, your urine becomes so diluted by all the fluids you drank that the metabolite levels are too low to even measure, and voila – you test negative. But this also means that your urine won’t contain any of the elements that it’s supposed to have (including color!), which is the big red flag to testing labs that you’ve deliberately diluted and are trying to beat your drug test. Any serious discussion about how to pass a drug test for marijuana, by using dilution, isn’t complete without information about how to get around this problem.

It would be a lot safer if you wait until right after your next drug test. Then on the 2-3 weekends after that have fun, but then stop so you’ll be clean for your next random. (I’m assuming you don’t have any notice at all for your tests, like not even a few hours).
You could probably also get away with 1 or 2 hits on Friday nights. It would be out of your system by the following Tuesday for sure, but Monday might be a little iffy.

I was a heavy smoker for months (3 to 5 j’s a day) until last month when I saw my probabtion officer. I dodged a bullet by going to the bathroom just before I saw her because I had no clue she was going to test me. The conviction was not a drug related charge and she had never mentioned drug testing me before, but she did tell me I would be tested this month. I have to take the urine test on the morning of December 8th. I have been clean for a month, but I just used a home detection test and failed it bigger than life. I’ve read a lot of B.S. on the internet, but in picking through the garbage I did take away some valuable information. Since seeing my PO, I quit smoking right then and started dieting. I have lost about 25 lbs. in the last month. I am female, in my 40′s and still about 40 lbs. overweight. I am 5’5″ and weigh 183 lbs. Is there any hope for me? I CANNOT fail this test!! Hey everybody, me again. Concluding my Sept. 17 post….I passed my drug test. All in all it had been exactly 3 weeks since I had last smoked. If you’d like my specs to help you estimate your POSSIBLE “clean date”(with my weight/metabolism/how long) check it out. I did dilute, drank about 4 16oz bottles of water, used my midstream urine, and a lil’ small talk with the Doc to easy’em to not quickly judge me. I’ll conclude with saying thank you Dee, your doin’ god’s work, I got a good job and wanted to give credit where it’s due.

soooooo here’s the real question, if they dont even go in the bathroom with you while peeing, could i just use someone elses urine who doesn’t smoke? and could they figure out it was someone else’s?
If you know for sure they won’t be observing you, substitution is easy. Just need to make sure that your specimen is right around body temperature when you hand it over. Other than that, there’s no way they could tell it wasn’t yours.
I smoked a bunch last night, and I’m drinking a gallon of water tonight, and a half gallon tomorrow before I go in to give my new job my social security information and all that stuff. If they make me piss in a cup, will I have enough time to pass?

Yes and no. They’re pretty accurate, but since you drank a lot of water that means you’ll have to drink exactly the same amount before your real test if you want to get exactly the same results.
In a real test, you also have to worry about your urine density and creatinine levels to avoid getting busted for diluting.

Hey guys, I smoked about 4 puffs of weed mixed with hookah for the first time on Saturday. This new job I had applied for then called me for an interview the next day. I got the job and I am now waiting to see if I passed the test which I took on Wednesday at about 1:30pm (about 3 and a half days later). Brittani, there is a very high likelihood that you passed your drug test today because you’re such a light smoker. Let us know what happens, but I personally wouldn’t be too worried about it. The odds are definitely in your favor.
Hey, what’s up everybody? I’m a fairly light smoker (one or twice a month), Sept. 1st & 2nd I smoked down and probably had 2 bowls all in all(outta a normal sized glass pipe) to myself of some kb. What I’ve found on the internet is the more potent the more likely it will stay longer (no claims to back this up), before sept. 2 I haden’t smoked 3 weeks prior. About two days after that I find I might have a job and need to be U.A.’d for it. Its been 2 weeks and a day (obviously) and have taken a drug test from walgreens (the At home brand) and passed. I am 5′ 7” about 110lbs of all skin and bones. I have a U.A. tomorrow and was wondering the likely-hood of passing a lab tested panel? I am a casual smoker….twice each week (one to two hits in each smoking). I recently was offered a temporary job which I accepted, but two days after accepting, I received an email from the corporate office saying that I needed to have a pre-employment drug screen. Throughout the hiring process, and interview, I was never told that this company did drug screens. I have already started working.
I smoked last Friday and Saturday night (a couple hits total), and before that, it has been a week without smoking. I am putting off the drug test for as long as possible (basically ignoring the emails for now), but I am wondering what the rough time period is for being clean.
I am also wondering if a person who is using the diluting method will be flagged if their urine looks “vitamin yellow”? Is it possible that this will be enough to warrant further testing? And could that further testing detect toxins that may have gone undetected in the initial screen?

Since you’re such a light smoker there’s a small chance you might be clean already. The only way to know for sure is to go to a pharmacy and buy a home test. If all you do is smoke pot, then just a single-panel test for THC is what you need.

When you dilute properly, your urine becomes completely clear. So B-2 just brings it back within the normal range. Kind of a strong yellow at first (but definitely not neon-yellow), and a little less yellow each time you pee.

Whether you’ll pass totally depends on how often you smoked before that. If you were already completely clean then there’s a good chance you’ll be clean again in one week, and you’d definitely be clean in 2 weeks.

yeah, that’s true if you’re talking about an on-site test. But if they send it to a lab for a gas chromotagraphy, that’s a much more sensitive test and the detection time is more like 5-7 days.

another remedy that i’ve heard of is water for two days before your test and AZO pills. Alotta people I know, regular smokers, have passed drug tests like this. But Im still freaked out, so imma overload my kidneys with water and pray all day long.
Actually I have to respectfully disagree about Erowid’s site. True, they have a pretty amazing amount of good information. But the fact is, so much of it is just SO OLD now that it’s becoming outdated. They started that site, what is it, 10-15 yrs ago now? The drug testing industry has changed a lot since then. Erowid’s got so many thousands and thousands of pages there’s no way they can keep it all updated, and frankly it’s beginning to show. I recommend their site for looking up drug detection times, but for anything to do with passing a drug test, I think you should take it with a grain of salt.
