Saliva drug tests are one of the most widely used methods for employee drug screening programs. They are the easiest way to find out immediately if an employee in under the influence of illegal drugs in the event of a workplace accident. Saliva drug tests are also one of the most cost effective methods to screen job applicants before hiring.

Urine drug tests are used more than any other by employers, but they are relatively easy to adulterate. Many employees resent the invasion of their privacy, and some individuals consider urine tests to be rather humiliating. But saliva drug tests are a much less invasive method and are somewhat donor-friendly. Saliva tests are also harder to adulterate than urine tests, since the specimen collection can be easily performed under direct supervision.

Saliva drug tests are very efficient at detecting recent drug use, which is why they are considered donor-friendly. A urine test can generally tell you whether or not an employee has smoked marijuana within the past 30 days, but you have no way of knowing if your employee was under the influence at the moment their sample was taken, or if they smoked marijuana just once during a bachelor party one month ago. A saliva test, on the other hand, can tell you if an employee is under the influence of an illegal substance at the very moment that their sample is taken.

Currently, the best method of testing for immediate drug use is the saliva drug test (sometimes referred to as an oral fluid test). Because they do not require privacy, saliva tests can be performed on the work site without fear of the sample being adulterated. These tests save employers money because they do not need to hire the services of a testing lab. In addition, the results of the test are available within minutes. Overall, saliva drug testing is a sensible solution for employee drug screening programs.
