A saliva drug test is a lot easier to pass than any other kind of drug test, so there’s really no excuse for failing one. But I have a sad story about someone who managed to fail one anyway, and I think it’s a good cautionary tale. It was a situation that could have been avoided SO easily – if this guy had only taken his saliva drug test more seriously.
Ryan’s Saliva Drug Test Fiasco
This all happened a couple of months ago. Ryan bought my e-book on a Monday, and he had a pre-employment drug test coming up on Thursday that same week. The reason I know this is because he emailed me on that Monday with a question after he read my e-book.
Turns out he was having a combination drug test and physical. Ryan’s lab appointment was for 8 a.m. on Thursday, and he mentioned that the instructions he’d been given said for him not to eat or drink anything after 10 p.m. the night before, except for water, plain coffee or plain tea. For some reason (I have no idea why) this made him absolutely certain that he was going to be given a piss test, and he had some questions about that. In his email he didn’t mention anything about passing a saliva drug test, and I could tell it wasn’t on his mind at all.
Weird Saliva Test Requirement?
Now, before this happened I’d never heard of someone being told not to eat or drink anything before coming in for their drug test, so it’s obviously pretty rare. And from everything I know about how to pass a drug test (which is a lot), there’s no hard evidence that what you eat makes a bit of difference in any drug test method. But knowing what I know specifically about how saliva drug tests work, common sense told me that the only possible test it might be required for would be a mouth swab.
So I emailed Ryan back right away and I told him that although I didn’t have any direct knowledge of this requirement, I was 99% certain that he needed to follow the method I give for beating a saliva drug test. I also told him he could prepare for a urine test at the same time if it would make him feel more secure, since the two methods don’t interfere with each other in any way. But it’s just SO EASY to pass a saliva test if you prepare for it, so I really tried to get across to him that he needed to do this, just in case I was right. (And I also reassured him that it is impossible for labs to detect when someone uses the methods I give, so he didn’t need to worry about that.)
A Saliva Test Horror Story…
Well, you can probably already see where this is going. Yup, sure enough, he was given a saliva drug test – which he hadn’t done any preparation for AT ALL – and he failed his test. I have no idea why he didn’t take my advice. False confidence? Maybe a touch of laziness? He sent me another email after he got his test results and admitted that he was a complete idiot for not listening to me. But this is one time when I really would have preferred to be wrong, because he missed out on a really good job as a result of all this.
So, long story short, Ryan and I kept in touch and fortunately things did eventually work out for him I’m happy to say. He finally got another job offer about a week ago, AND he had to pass another drug test. But this time they told him upfront that he was getting a urine test, so he followed the instructions in my e-book for that (again) and passed with no problem. He sounds pretty happy with the job he ended up with, but I don’t think he’d want to go through all that grief again if he had it to do over.
So what’s the moral of poor Ryan’s story? Just that even if passing a saliva drug test is really easy, you MUST take them seriously, folks. You and I know that it’s complete insanity for employers to be wigged out about the humble weed, but the fact is that there are a lot of insane people who pull the strings and decide who gets hired and who gets to keep their job. And like I said before – this sooo did not have to happen, because a saliva drug test is so freakin’ easy to pass.
How To Pass A Saliva Drug Test – The Easy Way
You want to know just how easy it is? Most smokers (not all, but most) can beat a mouth swab test just by not smoking for a few days. But there’s an exception to every rule, and for some reason a few random people will test positive for as long as a few weeks (my guess is it probably has something to do with diet, and not eating healthy). So to make sure you’re not one of the exceptions, I’d still recommend picking up a home test and using it right before your lab appointment, to find out where you stand.
p.s. By the way – if a lab ever gives you instructions not to eat or drink before you go in for a saliva test, JUST IGNORE THEM. They’re only asking because they want to get the most accurate results possible. So if your goal is beat a saliva drug test, why help the lab?

Why would you help people pass a drug test to get work? This could possibly become a safety issue for other workers. Can you explain this to me?

Yeah I agree, some of the hardest working people I know are smokers and I don’t think it’s anybody’s (especially yours Maiki) to pass judgment on those that do. You’ve got a lot of growing up to do and I speak on behalf of most of this site’s population when I say this…relax and smoke one yah jerk.

I need to know if I can beat the swab test? Its been 9 hrs since I have smoked and I got till friday morning before the dreaded test. I got a little more than 84 hrs till then. So I have stopped smoking, when I usually smoke 3 or more a day. I need an honest answer so I can ease my thoughts!
What everyone is failing to state here is that these tests are not simply *saliva* tests, but tests that actually use the microscopic cells in your cheeks and/or mouth to measure what types of drugs are in your body (if any). Most of the time if you’re getting a swab in a lab or testing facility .. the workers are trained & will make damn sure to see that you’re scraping your cheeks with the testing stick or even place the stick in the preferred position themselves and not even giving you the opportunity to put it in your mouth incorrectly. The only “solution” to swab testing that I’ve ever heard of is the rinsing with home made mouthwash made of a solution consisting of half water, half hydrogen peroxide. Brush your teeth, gums, lips, cheeks, the ENTIRE inside of your mouth as vigorously and as thoroughly as you can before the test & use the home made mouth rise. Do this again as close to the test as you possibly can, preferably right before you go in. I have heard of a few people that said they passed it this way for various drugs (weed, opiate pills, benzos, etc).
If you’re one of the lucky ones who gets one of these tests at your place of employment you’ll have a greater chance of the person administering the test NOT really knowing how to do it correctly. In that case, use the above mentioned technique and keep the testing stick in between your teeth. They have salt on the end to initiate salivating, so there will be NO going around the saliva part, your mouth simply cannot restrain from salivating when salt is present.

There’s a such thing called d.tox for people righting there comments.. You can get it a your local vitamin store or gmc.. I smoke about 7 times a day, Everyday.. Stop smoking for a week and drink excessive water. It’s sucks but not getting a paycheck sucks too lol

Hey, I have an interview tomorrow for Publix and from everything i have read on the forums, Publix does a saliva test. I have been smoking a LOT (6-7 times a week, for 4-5 weeks) and the last time I smoked was 2 days ago. Do i have a reason to be worried if the interview is tomorrow, or will I be ok? it will be right at the 72 Hr mark when they interview me. Any advice i will find useful! Thanks

i took xanax,perks,tylonal 4,48 hrs befor the test and i took aderal 24 hrs befor the test .i went on 10 differ sites to figure this whole swab thing out .what i did was brushed my teeth and toung a few times and used listerine,i gargled streight peroxide spitting it out and adding more for 20 min than i took the test 1 1/2 hrs later and passed others that smoked weed said i didnt need to do any of that they just brushed and used mouth wash there not really to see whats in your system they can just tell if your under the influence there easy to pass 7 of us did and im sure they all had differ shit in there systems your gonna be fine trust me long as you try ,you pass and theres no certain way to soak the pad just soak it alittle and thats enough gl

I smoked some maryjane at 8am went to work got surprised with a swab test.. I was able to get Hydrogen Peroxide right before the test… I rinsed my mouth out with HP for 15 or so minutes and then 5 minutes before I walked in… I was foming for sure.. Some of that Foam/spit from the HP got on the swab. The swab did hit my cheek but I did not rub it around kept it in between my teeth. I smoked at 8am I took test at 11am…

My test came back as contaminated.. The test I used was from 2009… They are making me take it again I am pushing it till Friday… This time No Smoking andwill use Mouthwash, Hydogen Peroxcide, Lots of brushing. On day of I will do the same.. I also have Listerene strips and spray also altoids… Update will be next Wednesday or Thursday… It will be about 48hrs since I have smoked last.. I hope this works…
I have been laid off from my job since May 13th of this year. My employer called August 25 given me a return date of Sept.12. I have taken one maybe two hits a few times a week during this time. I will have a saliva dug test then day I report back to work. I don’t know much about this test but wander what is needed to be done to pass if any. I just finished my second interview for the Marriott, and I have to take a drug (saliva) test, in 15 hrs. I am an every day smoker.. Probably smoke about a half ounce within three days, between myself and one other person. I am 5’10, female, and weigh about 165. I will definitley brush my teeth excessively in the morning.. i had a job interview today 2nd part of it and i was aware they were going to drug test me but i thought it was going to be one at a lab so last night i downed like 10-12 cups of water and drank 2 cups of cranberry juice today thinking it could help with a urine test, i had done a small amount of heroin the night before and was freaked when they said they wanted a oral drug test right then and there, so i took it and we waited 8mins for the result and she said i was good !?! idk if i just got really lucaly bc im a small girl with a fast metabolism and had used mouthwash before i went unknowwingly but i guess you never know? i got the job !

Holy crap!!! DO NOT WASH YOUR MOUTH WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL. Just rinse really good with hydrogen peroxide, that’s all you need to do. They’re two very different products!
Yeah i just took a saliva test today. I leave a bottle of hydro peroxide in my locker just to be safe. I gargled right when I got to work, had some Rockstars between the 8 hour shift and smoked a couple cigs and then took the test 8 hours later, and I smoked before i got to work. I did it before when I was a plumber in the union. Passed hella easy. You have to smoke like @ work to fail that sh*%. But I’m confident I passed. Yeah just dont use rubbing alchohal. That sounds kinda harsh. … I heard if you drink something with salicid acid or citrus acid in it, “like a Rockstar”, the acid will surely get rid of what ever THC is stuck on yo gums. If you smell like weed when you take it, you failed.
To convince you that the saliva test is the easiest test to pass, My girl smoked an hour before the test and didnt gargle sh!+ and she passed. If any thing, if its a random, swallow all your spit before you take it. And say a prayer and bless it. Mean while stay calm. If you fail then your just not ment to have that job.

So today is sunday and I smoked wednsday and friday and I just applied for a job but I wasn’t aware I was gonna have to drug test untill I read it on the application but it didn’t say what kind of drug test or when. How long will it be in my system for? And how can I cleanse out my system?
Well if you are under 200 lbs and dont have alot of fat, you have a good chance of passing it straightup.. however, if u have gotten this in time, go to walmart and get a big jar of pickle juice (1 quart or bigger) and the hamburger style chips are best, cuz u want to grind them up, some how ingest this tonight and the vinegar will help clean u out. drink water, about a liter or so, and pee at least once.. that might work for a pee test. its how i passed my probation but im also a skinny guy with a fast metabolism so that helps :P
what if you only smoked like two weekends back to back and now you have to take a drug test two weeks later?
so i have a oral test on sunday… (5/15) i just smoked yesterday(5/11) and ive been trying to drink a shit load of water and piss alot.. but i still get people telling me it aint gunna work… so i read this article… and i think imma try the peroxide and altods or w.e. their called. imma try to brush my teeth like crazzzzy and hope to pass…

Brush ur teeth very well, brush ur gums tonge everythin den rince out with scope. Go to the store n buy altoids before the test n pop a few in ur mouth n u should be ok. I also used peroxide to wash out my mouth just to be on the safe side. Oh n not smokin at least 24 hours before the test would help out.
