A saliva drug test is a lot easier to pass than any other kind of drug test, so there’s really no excuse for failing one. But I have a sad story about someone who managed to fail one anyway, and I think it’s a good cautionary tale. It was a situation that could have been avoided SO easily – if this guy had only taken his saliva drug test more seriously.
Ryan’s Saliva Drug Test Fiasco
This all happened a couple of months ago, at the time I’m writing this. Ryan bought my e-book on a Monday, and he had a pre-employment drug test coming up on Thursday that same week. The reason I know this is because he emailed me on that Monday with a question after he finished reading my e-book.
Turns out he was having a combination drug test and physical. Ryan’s lab appointment was for 8 a.m. on Thursday, and he mentioned that the instructions he’d been given said for him not to eat or drink anything after 10 p.m. the night before, except for water, plain coffee or plain tea.
For some reason (I have no idea why) this made him absolutely certain that he was going to be given a piss test, and he had emailed to ask me some questions about that. In his email he didn’t mention anything about passing a saliva test, and I could tell it wasn’t on his mind at all.
Weird Saliva Test Requirement?
If you’re told not to eat or drink anything before going in for a physical, one where you know you’re going to be drug tested, it actually doesn’t have anything to do with the drug test. The reason they ask you to fast is because they want to test your blood sugar levels, which is a standard part of a physical.
So I emailed Ryan back right away and told him all this, and I said he shouldn’t assume they were going to give him a urine test. I also told him that he could prepare for a urine test AND a saliva test at the same time, since the two methods don’t interfere with each other in any way. It’s just so damn easy to pass a saliva test if you prepare for it, so I really tried to get across to him that he needed to be ready for either type of test.
One Situation Where You Won’t Be Given A Saliva Test
I knew Ryan was applying for a job at a private company, so I knew it could go either way. But there are certain types of employment situations where you can bank on getting urine tested.
If the company or organization you work for (or want to work for) receives federal funding, or if it’s regulated by the federal government, then urine tests are mandatory. You definitely won’t be getting a saliva test in those situations, because the federal government sets the rules (agencies like any state Dept. of Transportation are a good example). But private companies can use any testing method they want.
Saliva Test Horror Story…
Well, I guess Ryan just didn’t believe me for some reason. Yup, sure enough, he was given a saliva drug test – which he hadn’t done any preparation for AT ALL – and he failed his test.
I have no idea why he didn’t take my advice. False confidence? Maybe a touch of laziness? He sent me another email after he got his test results and admitted that he was a complete idiot for not listening to me. But this is one time when I really would have preferred to be wrong, because he missed out on a really good job as a result.
So, long story short, Ryan and I kept in touch and fortunately things did eventually work out for him, I’m happy to say. He finally got another job offer about a week ago, AND he had to pass another drug test. But this time they told him upfront that he was getting a urine test, so he followed the instructions in my e-book for that (again) and passed with no problem. He sounds pretty happy with the job he ended up with, but I don’t think he’d want to go through all that grief again if he had it to do over.
So what’s the moral of poor Ryan’s story? Just that even if passing a saliva drug test is really easy, you MUST take them seriously, folks.
You and I know that it’s complete insanity for employers to be wigged out about the humble weed. But the fact is, there are a lot of insane people who pull the strings and decide who gets hired and who gets to keep their job. And like I said before – a saliva drug test is so freakin’ easy to pass if you just prepare for it.
How To Pass A Saliva Test
Most smokers (not all, but most) can beat a mouth swab test just by not smoking for a day or two. But there are enough exceptions to that rule to make it too risky to count on. And a few random people will actually test positive for several weeks for some reason, so you don’t want to find out the hard way that you’re one of those poor folks.
If you want, you can get out your wallet and pay $30-$50 for a commercial mouth rinse that will probably help you pass. OR, you can go to any drugstore and spend $3-$4 for a bottle of plain old hydrogen peroxide. Tough choice, right?
Hydrogen peroxide is the active ingredient in a lot of saliva test mouthwashes. Just brush your teeth really good, rinse your mouth well with the peroxide, and your mouth will be clean enough to pass a saliva test for about 30 minutes to an hour. That’s it.
Consider Using A Home Test Kit
If you’re really paranoid about failing your test and you want to be 100% sure you’ll pass, then you might want to pick up a home saliva test kit. Do a trial run at home, and then just test yourself to make sure you pass.
The peace of mind alone makes the cost of a test kit worth it to some people, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to save a few bucks. Saliva test kits are around $25 (or more) if you buy them from a drugstore. If you have the time, you’ll save a chunk of change if you order a test kit online. Meditest charges fair prices and they have very reliable shipping. I’ve used them for several years without any problems at all.

okay. weed is only illegal because in the 1930s tobacco companies used their hookups, and bribes. to get it illegalized so they wouldnt have competition in the smoking market. reaper is an idiot. ive been smokin for a long ass time, been piss tested many times. and passed each and every one of them. booze hurts more people than weed. and so do cigarettes. but do jobs and schools test for these things? sadly, they do not.

I have saliva test or urine at 230 it is 11 now im passing on the urine w sure gell aand water been rinsing mouth out for an hour and hav 3 paks of listerine to pop on way to and b4 has been two weeks since i smoked am i doing right?
I passed it by rinsing with Listerin right before the saliva test eventhough i smoked the night before.
So I took a cotton swab test yesterday around 3:40 && I hadnt smoked in 15 hrs. I brushed my teeth && rinsed my mouth out twice before i went to bed && then again when i woke up (brushed the 3 x’s in the morning.) I used a whole little bottle of mouthwash before i went in && i ate like 4-5 altoids when i was sitting inside waiting. I just passed one at a huge improvement store. Took hydrocodone the whole week before and took 40 mg on sat at noon at 12:10 then called me for drug test. Took no more, went in monday morn at 6:15 am and passed. Drank green tea, cranberry juice. Then monday morn rinsed with listerine and strait hydrogen peroxide. brushed gums and teeth, rinsed again brushed then actually took my finger and coated the toothpaste in my gum line. Put the swab in my mouth, let it touch my gums very little, and kept it on my teeth mainly. But it still got plenty saliva on it. I PASSED, if i can do it you can do it.

ok…so im gonna go to a temp service 2morrow and i heard they have swab tests. i smoked at like 3 or 4 this mornin. thankfully out of pot but im a lil nervous bout this test.usually id look for a job that didnt test but this job starts out at a good rate. ive heard of the peroxide,listerine strips,the mouthwash but look i drink mt dew on a daily basis and my nestle quik every mornin. i also smoke marlboro reds so really will the mothwash and the strips do the trick

CEPACOL THROAT DROPS WORK!!!! Just keep one moving around in your mouth. They stick the swab in. Just move it around too. This could have been a simple test that only checks for simple things but i was on valium and had taken some strong pain pills. no weed for 3.5 weeks. I know the swab test only shows up for stuff within the last 2 or 3 days but it was clean. Not 100% sure but I think the cepacol worked

Q CARB 32…..fast the night before and no fatty foods the day before, drink the whole bottle of QCARB 3 hours or so before your test, drink a glass of water with it, then SIP a bottle of water until you go in. also, it doesn’t hurt to take a multi vitamin for a few days before….just passed a piss test today using this method…..you can buy it at GNC, rite aid, and its 50 bucks, but it really works…..no more red skin from non working niacin now that i have this magical drink….lol……toke it up and get that job boo….peace
Hey I just took a swab drug test and haven’t smoked since Saturday. I had tic tacs in my mouth just before the lady had me swab the inside of my cheek and have it sit between my cheek and gum. I’m afraid I may not pass it although I do not smoke nearly as much as some of the people on here I only smoke a couple of hits a day. What are my chances of passing this thing? I really need this job, oh plus on the brush part of the swab I think I got lipstick on it, will that effect it?

So I had to submitt a oral swab drug test friday that was dropped in my lap had no idea I was going to be tested so of course I failed I smoke about 2 grams a day or so everyday for like 3 years now and Im not sure if an elephant tranquilizer could cover my thc levels any suggestions on passing this oral test anything someone has actually tried and has worked?

Honestly the right brands of the QuickFix style urines will work. Most are just always too skeptical to try so they end up not trying and winging it and well….fail, haha. I am not an expert or a doctor though, this is just from personal experience. So, IF you have the window of time to do it, go out to your local Best Mart (or whatever your local Asian-run-711 is called) where they sell glass and other things for Adults. They will most likely have it there.

I think you’re the one who needs to do your homework. Using pot has never caused a fatality, because study after study has shown that it’s literally impossible to overdose on it (much to the chagrin of federal agencies who want to demonize it). And as anyone who has ever got high smoking pot will tell you, the absolute last thing you feel like doing is going postal and committing violence toward someone else. It would take way too much energy, lol. Pot is also far less addictive than LEGAL drugs like alcohol and nicotine.
The prohibition on pot is what causes violence, by giving an incentive to the people who grow and sell it on the black market. Not to mention the billions that we as taxpayers spend every year on arresting and incarcerating the end users, who are engaging in an activity that’s far less harmful than any legal high. If our government really had our best interests in mind, they would outlaw alcohol and legalize pot instead.

WOO HOO PISSED LOL, u tell em my grandparents bout have cancer & have had it for years they have been goin thru chemo taking all sorts of supplements, narcotics, etc. for the 1st 5-8 years with little improvment & almost no immprovment to their quality of life. They both went from happy healthy people to sick unhappy people, chemo after chemo worse and worse it got not just their health but their attitudes also they pretty much couldnt be grandparents & definitly not great grandparents. Once the California medical marijuana bill was passed i knew it would help them because 3 of their 8 children had used it for other medical/emotional issues. Now came the hard part in convincing two elderly people stuck in their ways that pot has come a long way since they were my age & that it was worth a try to ditch the pill bottle for the weed bag. It wasnt an easy thing to do but after a close family friend had made the switch with great success & another had passed away never giving it a shot my grandpa reluctantly accepted, he was in for chemo that month made the request & went home with a prescription. It tooks days to see positive results like acctually having an appetite eating more healthy & then imagine that feeling alot more healthy & happy but unfortunitly it took months to get him 100% past all the physical & mental withdrawls of the narcotics that have been giving to him over the past 8 years that did nothing but keep him dopped up 24/7/365 and dependate on them as well while giving no help in his appitite or his emotional state of mind that went from bad to worse & steadily fot worse year after year from the time he was diagnosed. Without pot he would be a goner he knows it the docs know it and so do i & my grandmother who saw his progress & wasnt far behind to jump on the weed bandwagon. Both of them are now a big part of their kids lives, grandkids & great grandkids as well, they can now get out of the house on a regular basis & be in high spirits they live as normal of lives as they did before their diagnosis. Its a miracle of ancient & modern medicine coming together and it’d be a shame to see the medical and emotional qualities of the herb wasted & ignored while mental & physical addictive narcotics are bein thrown down our throats.

I support NORML, and if weed was legal I would smoke it every weekend. But I wouldn’t smoke it at work or while driving. Those who are heavy drinkers do just as much if not more harm to others at work and behind the wheel than pot smokers.

I use it for migraines and my friend does for MS.
Working and driving while stoned would be difficult. I do not smoke often and would do neither. However as a youngster I could drive. Being stoned is not like being drunk and work from tolerance. It was like taking an aspirin. This is coming from someone three years sober. While it may seem as though we are irresponsible, you might also notice, we are calm, peaceful and minding our own business. We are adults contributing to society and paying our bills. Its pot, not crack. When my aunt had Chemo, it was the only way she could eat.National Geographic had a very interesting show on it’s benefits. Check into it at your local library. We can read too.

I had a big argument with my sister yrs ago over smoking a bit of pot, what happened is she was stressed it was that bad they were sending her for a cat scan, she had really bad migrains and they give her a load of pills i went daft when i realised what they give her to take,i said to the doctor in frount of her that she would be alot better if she had a bit of cannabis in a yogurt or something as she dosent smoke at all, and she told me she wouldnt touch it because it was illegal, i said if she sold them tablets on the street it would be 10 times worse and a lot more addictive, i asked the doctor what he thought but he couldnt comment but he wasnt denying it..

Smoke daily have for months now, went 5 days of brushings 5 times a day rinsing mouth with peroxide taking niacin 3 pills a day and drinking a ton of water and cranberry juice. Be4 test brushed really good bout 15 mins strait, then used peroxide for about 3 mins, then swished the cranberry around mouth from then until 5 mins be4 test took test failed did everything every1 said would work with no success. Well at least i can tok a bowl now but i was very confident all my efforts would pay off but theirs no guarentee every1 is different
you have to drink bout a gallon of cranberry juice, itll completely flush you out, the thc will extract itself out of your blood cells with the niacin, thats for blood or urin tests, as for a cotton swab I dont have any earthly idea

I have a drug test for a job at the company called Sykes. Im not sure if they do a urine test, or swab test. Either way, I haven’t smoked since 7pm Wednesday, and its now 2am Thursday, and my test is at 2pm. I have drank tons of water over the past day ina half. Plus, stupidly, drank just a teaspoon of bleach. Am I fucked? Not to mention I usually smoke at least a gram or two a day.

Have to take them all the time with no notice. i just always brush my teeth and mouth with some cranberry juice while brushing. make sure its real cranberry juice though. it cause of the acid in it and the nicine level it just works good. other real acidic fruit works to. and in most cases as long as you wait a day and brush your teeth you should be fine.

I smoked on Saturday night and all day for 2years before that and had a mouth swab on monday and passed I just washed my mouth out 5 times with mouthwash that has alchohol use it for 30 seconds after it strts burning and Ed my mouth 5 times also on Sunday then JUST washed my mouth out 3 more times Monday morning all spaced out and passed :) and no I didn’t smoke just stop the high when you smoke again is better

WHAT is the difference between an instant read-on-the-spot swab test and the ones they send out to the lab? Had an interview this morning, expecting to have a piss test. Had a condom filled with clean piss tucked in my crotch area and I’ll be damnned if they didnt pull out a swab! Barely let it touch my mouth and then they stuck it in some solution and sealed it up to send off. If a lab is testing it, will it be more sensitive than usual? I will post results. Might take a week though…
