Anxiety about passing a drug test is an unpleasant reality for pot smokers. When you first hear you’re going to be drug tested, most people start looking for information about how long weed stays in your system.
But the answer to that can be dramatically different from person to person, which is why you can’t absolutely trust anything you find on the Internet. But here are some facts about passing a drug test that will help give you a general idea.
Detection Times For Passing A Urine Drug Test
There’s a lot of bad information on the Internet about how long THC metabolites can be detected in urine. The problem is that once something gets posted on the Internet it’s there forever, even if it’s really outdated by now.
Several years ago, it was thought that THC was detected in urine for as long as 90 days. Companies who sell detox products would still like you to believe that, because it means you’re more likely to buy one of their products. But the fact is, for most people it’s actually much less than that, usually more like 4-6 weeks for people who smoke regularly.
Why Passing A Drug Test For Pot Is Such A Crap Shoot
Passing a drug test when you have to give a urine sample can be problematic for two reasons:
1) Since THC metabolites are stored in your fat cells, they can be detected longer than any other recreational drug.
2) No two people have the exact same metabolism, which means no two people will take the exact same amount of time to get clean.
The actual length of time weed will show up in your urine can vary widely, depending on factors like how often you smoke, the grade of bud you smoke, your individual metabolism, and your body fat percentage.
For example, if you’re an infrequent user, like maybe once every couple of weeks or less, then you’ll be clean in 3-5 days generally speaking. But if you happen to have a really slow metabolism, and you’re also a pretty heavy user, then realistically you could be looking at up to eight weeks before you get clean.
It’s impossible to predict with absolute certainty, which is why you shouldn’t trust any kind of chart you find online.
The Only Way To Know FOR SURE If You’ll Pass Your Drug Test
Knowledge is a good thing, so go ahead and try to find all the information you can about passing a drug test. But at the end of the day, the ONLY way to know for sure if you’re going to pass is if you TEST YOURSELF.
You can buy a home test kit at just about any pharmacy, for around $12 for a single-panel test strip. Or you can get cheap home test strips here if you have time to order online.
But whatever you do, do not show up for your test without knowing for sure whether or not you’re clean. It will save you a lot of anxiety in the long run. Even if you test positive, wouldn’t you rather know beforehand so you at least have a chance in hell of doing something about it?
Passing Other Types Of Marijuana Drug Tests Besides Urine
Blood tests have a relatively short detection time for pot, at just 2-3 days for infrequent users and around 2 weeks for regular users. And saliva tests have the shortest detection time of all, ranging from 24-hours to 1 week (with the norm being somewhere around 2-3 days).
Hair follicle tests can detect all types of drugs, but typically a hair test will only examine 90 days of prior history. There are several hair products on the market for passing a drug test, all of which have questionable reliability rates. However, the good news is that THC evidence tends to be weaker than other drug classes. Which means that you probably can’t cover up any other drug use, but you might have a chance if all you do is smoke pot.
What About Passing A Drug Test For Other Toxins?
Most recreational drugs are out of your system in less than a week, and after that they don’t show up in blood, saliva or urine tests.
Opiates, barbiturates and anti-anxiety meds are kind of a wild card, because their detection times can vary depending on the particular drug and whether or not you take it daily. Some are a few days, and some could be a few weeks. So if you’re in the habit of using un-prescribed meds, you’ll need to get on the Internet and look for specific information about the particular drug by name. Wikipedia is a good place to start.
Is Passing A Drug Test Even Possible If You Have THC In Your System?
Fortunately, the overwhelming majority of drug tests administered are for either urine or saliva, both of which are entirely possible to pass. You’ll find plenty of information about passing a drug test on this website.
But if you’re wondering whether or not you might be clean already, you’re not likely to find the answer on the Internet. Go to a pharmacy and buy a single-panel drug test strip, or get some cheaper test strips online, but just test yourself. Passing a drug test is too important, and that’s the only way you’re going to find out for sure exactly where you stand.

If you have until Aug. 9th you might be okay, but that’s only an opinion and not a substitute for facts. Wait 5 days or so and then use a home test, it’s the only way to be sure.
I smoked about 8 joints, then stopped for over 30 days before I smoked 2 joints in a 4 day period. Will be clean for approx 10 days before taking urine test. I’m 5’8″ 195 lb male with normal metabolism. What are my chances?

If you hadn’t smoked for a long time before you smoked 4 days ago, then you might already be clean already, or pretty close to it. When you’re clean, a one-time use doesn’t stay in your system long at all. My advice is to go out and get a home test. That’s the only way to know for sure if you’re clean or not.

I have been a heavy user for the past 6-7 Years, with several periods of cleanliness. I stopped using heavily about 1 month ago, but still smoked once per week. The quality I smoked was very high, and when I would smoke I would smoke 2-4 bowls with 3 of my friends (during the period of only smoking once per week).
I also took a 7 day GNC system detox kit and will have been clean for a total of 8-9 days when I take the urine test.
I am 5’8” 160 lbs of solid muscle. My body fat percentage is 8% and I work out vigorously every single day.
Could any learned reader evaluate my chances of passing this drug test?
Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

I used to smoke moderately, but slowed down a month and a half ago for an upcoming drug test. I have a bad habit of not being able to resist when I’m around it after drinking, so I usually ask my friends to keep it away from me because I’m in college, but anyway. My test is possibly a week away, if not it’s further, and I ended up taking 4 hits of a j tonight. It was only mids, nothing real good, and before that the last time I smoked was maybe a week or two before, and it was also 4 hits of a j, but it was really good stuff. I’m a pretty heavy girl. If I exercise and sweat a lot, take a vitamin containing niacin, and drink a lot of water, green tea, and cranberry juice could I be clean in a week, or should I try and hold off my test for a few more days?
ok Im a very heavy set woman and am up for a managment position. i hardly ever smoked but last month on the 19th of april i took 3 hits of a joint. havn’t smoked since. im a pretty regular water drinker too. I’m 6’4″, 235 pounds, physically active and decently high metabolism. I always eat a lot and drink plenty (non-alcoholic), and have stepped up both fluid intake and exercise.

You could go either way, frankly. I recommend that you buy a home test kit and use it on Tuesday morning. If it’s positive, then you should dilute before your test. The good news is that even if you’re positive, your THC levels will still be pretty low, which means that you wouldn’t need to drink very much to get within the negative range. And if you don’t drink more than about a quart of water, then your creatinine, urine density and color should also still be within normal ranges.
If you do get tested on Tuesday, drink about a quart of water and pee a couple of times before your test, and maybe even test yourself one more time before you walk out the door. Overall, I’d say your chances of passing are good if you take these steps.

Yeah there’s a chance you tested negative, but only a home test kit would tell you for sure. Also, if you didn’t do anything besides drink water then it’s impossible to guess if you passed the authenticity tests or not. Sorry, just don’t have enough info for an educated guess.

You’re probably already clean now. Buy a home drug test to confirm that, but if you’ve got 2 weeks until your test I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
I can pass a urine drug test if I haven’t used in 3 days. If I do meth or oxy on Tuesday, even Tuesday night, I can pass a drug test on Friday. If it is Xanax, it takes one day longer to get out of my system. I don’t really drink water, until right before. I’ve done this for years. I take a drug test every month. I’ve got it down pat.
This is what pisses me off. People do dangerous drugs and can pass drug tests within days. Those of us who use pot though are screwed for weeks.
yo get the STRIP CLEANSING PILL it works everytime. after you take it drink 48 oz of water and pee as much as you can to clear your body of toxins and dont eat anything three hours before take the pill. oh and it only clears toxins for about 7 hours. It should be 40-45$

I go through this every month. All it takes is water and sweat. Sometimes niacin(recommended dose)it just helps to make you sweat. I highly recomend the “First Check” at home test. One thing in your favor is that joints give you the least amount of THC. (get a pipe)

Can they deny me employment if I fail the saliva test because of my scripts? Any advice on how to take the test?

Unfortunately it’s up to the employer whether or not to hire you, even when you have valid prescriptions. Employees don’t have a lot of rights in this area. Take your medication bottles to show as evidence, and just hope that the decision-maker is a reasonable person.

How long till you’re clean is anybody’s guess, but somewhere between 1-2 months or so. Everyone’s different, so you’d just have to test yourself occasionally to check.
And yes, employers can legally discriminate against you even if it’s legal in your state for medical use, since it’s still illegal at the federal level. Sucks, but that’s the way it is for now.

You *might* be clean in as little as a week. Only way to know for sure is to buy a home test from a drug store, and just test yourself!

If you rarely use then there’s a good chance you’ll be clean by next Friday. Dilution wouldn’t help you, so hopefully time will do the trick. If the pharmacies there in Australia sell home test kits, I’d recommend getting one so that you can test yourself next Thursday, to make sure.
